World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (illness).”
Simple 3 steps for healthy lifestyle and wellness…
1. Healthy eating and drinking habit
• Drink more water: Water is essential for our bodies to function. Water is needed to carry out body functions, remove waste, and carry nutrients and oxygen around our body. Since we lose water daily through urine, bowel movements, perspiration, and breathing, we need to replenish our water intake.
• Fruits and vegetables: Always include fruits and vegetables in your diet which have a load of vitamins and minerals. It also represent different antioxidant content, removes free radicals that damage our cells and fights inflammation in our body.
• To Avoid: Smoking, eating junk food and consumption of alcohol is dangerous for your health. We all are aware of the ill effects cause cancers, lung diseases, damage liver adversely and some make you obese. Also don’t involve emotional eating to fill an emotion rather than real hunger.
2. Physical activity and sleep
• Exercise: Physical wellness increases physical fitness by being physically fit, a person would have an enhanced ability to prevent illness and diseases. Disease stimulates a healthy mind and body. Increasing simple physical activity in everyday life such as walking, cycling, walking the dog, taking the steps, and hiking promotes a person’s physical wellness.
• Get enough sleep: When you don’t rest well, you compensate by eating more. Usually, it’s junk food. Get enough rest and you don’t need to snack to stay awake. Also, lack of sleep causes premature aging, and you don’t want that!
3. Mental health
• Intellectual: Mental exercise and engagement through learning, problem-solving, and creativity support intellectual wellness and promote a better attitude. People who learn new things and challenge their mind can avoid mental health problems.
• Emotional: A person with emotional wellness can deal with stressful situations. A person who is aware of their own feelings has good self-esteem and has empathy toward others’ feelings would have emotional wellness.
• Social: Social circles and support networks are invaluable to the overall well-being of a person. Relating, interacting, and contributing to a community, establishing good interpersonal relations, and maintaining long-term relationships with family and friends keep a person happier and healthier.
• Spiritual: Developing compassion, caring, forgiving, and having a purpose in life help in spiritual wellness. This can be achieved through meditation, volunteer work, spending time in nature, etc.
